Evan Stone and the Translucent Ham Sandwich Band

Evan Stone and the Translucent Ham Sandwich Band is an eclectic, multi-media, multifaceted group based in Orange County. The group incorporates improvisational music performed by a 10 piece band accompanied by videos, a juggler, dancers, magicians, poets, actors, painters and a mentalist in a show that can only be called a sensory overload smorgasbord. The THSB experience creates an undeniably unique atmosphere for both performer and audience member alike.

In a world full of rules and regulations, schedules and time restrictions, responsibilities and deadlines, Evan Stone and the Translucent Ham Sandwich Band offers a release from these daily woes.

Freedom of expression manifested into a live onstage improvised performance is what the THSB is all about. Each musician/performer embarks on the road less traveled, even more so on the road not yet paved, as they incorporate the sound of lush chords and melodic harmonies which syncopate in rhythm with one another enhanced by visual artists who engage the viewers other senses.

The performers embrace the freedom from the fear of the unknown as they take your body/mind on a journey into the realm of all possibilities.

It is necessary that we as humans embrace the elements of pure creation. It is in our creativity that we find ourselves and our inner peace. To create something from nothing, whether it comes through spoken word, visual arts or music, connects us with one another and also with that which has created all.

The performance itself is unique in that it varies heavily from one performance to the next. It is from this organic spontaneous creation of sound, with the aid of visual stimuli, that THSB births a continuation of the NOW world beat music.

Not knowing what’s around the corner is what keeps both the performer and the audience member equally interested and fully engaged. The vocalist, Miss Trey, sings about topics that appear on a screen which is supplied by the audio/visual artist who in turn is being influenced by the musicians, performers and samples he hears, which then influences his choices of imagery projection. Everyone plays off of everyone else.

The implication of free music that has no boundaries is that it is chaotic in nature. This is partly true and partly what makes up the sound of THSB. The music with the help of direction given by the conductor takes it from a state of total chaos and delivers it gradually to some semblance of order with extremely flexible and outstretched musical borders. This enables the musician, dancer, poet, painter and actor to feel completely free and uninhibited.

The result is that both the audience and the performers are connected in the present moment. All are engaged in the creation of the now and feel a sense of adventure and total exploration.
